Benidorm has to be he big one. Is it mini Manhattan? Is it Las Vegas? Whichever, as your Resorthoppa airport transfer takes you north along the autopista you can’t fail to be amazed by the sight of this high-rise holiday spectacular. Just forty years ago it was a small fishing town, clustered around a delightful domed church. Old Benidorm is still there, but a tiny jewel amidst the huge tower blocks that flow along the two fabulous beaches and then inland. If what you want is egg and bacon for breakfast, a view of the sea from a 20th floor balcony, upwards of 200 discos and “English” pubs and bars galore this is for you. Lying in the sun and you have finished your book? Don’t worry there is a tented public library on the beach.
Alicante, city of light to the Romans, is now a vibrant Spanish city all too easily passed as your airport transfer takes you to beach resort. A day in Alicante will give you a taste of the real Mediterranean lifestyle, be it a pause in a café on the paseos by the sea, lunch in a restaurant on one of the elegant esplanades that run through the city, or a glimpse of another way of life as you watch local “mujeres” shop in the huge Mercado Central. Plus there is the modern art museum and the Castillo de Santa Barbara.

Your airport transfer will most likely take you round Alicante City, to the Alicante beach resorts of San Juan de Alicante, golden sands, 6km out, or to Benidorm, see above, Albir, on the edge of the Big Town, Altea, so much quieter after Benidorm, Calpe and the huge rock that towers above it, Penon de Ifach, Moraira, wonderful views nearby, Benissa, fine old buildings, Javea, huge beach and a fishing port at the foot of the old town, and then Denia, great beaches but a lively working town too, which is home to a large ferry port.
Resorts, heading South
Resorthoppa transfers head for Santa Pola, good clean beaches and a nature reserve on the old salt flats, Guardamar, huge sand dunes, Torrevieja, eyecatching modern architecture, and La Manga, a strip of high rise hotels on a tiny strip of land between a vast lagoon, the Mar Menor, and the open sea.
